When being applied the cake did not flake. When used it did not cover the bass or coat the strings with a layer of powder. It helped produce a larger sound and a good staccato. The only down side to this rosin cake was that when shifting the bow from the bottom of the fingerboard position to near the bridge it had a little difficulty activating the strings at the higher tension. I would recommend this rosin to players who play in mostly ensemble settings. For a soloist the slow activation time towards the bridge may be an issue with some solo works.
